Iran Organises Mass Weddings for Couples Ready to Die for Country

Iranian authorities on Monday organised mass wedding ceremonies in Tehran for couples who reportedly pledged their readiness to sacrifice their lives in the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel. The ceremonies, held in major public squares across the Iranian capital, featured hundreds of couples, including over 100 at the popular Imam Hossein Square, according to local media reports. The events were aired on state television as part of efforts to boost public morale amid tensions surrounding the fragile ceasefire between Iran, the US and Israel. Reports said the newlyweds were part of a government-backed “self-sacrifice” initiative, where participants vowed to support the country during wartime, including volunteering for dangerous national assignments. Iranian officials claimed millions of citizens, including senior government figures such as President Masoud Pezeshkian and parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, had enrolled in the programme. Photos from the ceremony showed couples arriving in military vehicles decorated for the occasion, while clerics presided over the wedding rites on stages adorned with balloons and giant portraits of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei. One bride, speaking to local media, said young people still deserved the opportunity to marry despite the country being at war. “Certainly, the country is at war, but young people also have the right to marry,” she said. Another groom described the event as special because it coincided with the anniversary of the marriage of Prophet Ali and Fatima, figures highly revered in Shia Islam. Iranian authorities have continued organising large pro-government gatherings since the outbreak of the conflict as part of efforts to demonstrate national unity and public support.
