ASUU Threatens Fresh Strike Over Unfulfilled Agreement

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has warned that another strike could happen if the Federal Government and state governments fail to fully implement the 2025 agreement reached with the union. Speaking after its NEC meeting in Yola, ASUU expressed dissatisfaction with what it described as poor and uncoordinated implementation of the agreement signed with the government. The union said several welfare issues affecting lecturers, including unpaid salaries, promotion arrears, withheld salaries from the 2022 strike, and pension delays, are yet to be resolved. ASUU also criticised some state governments and university administrators for failing to properly carry out parts of the agreement. The union warned that growing frustration among lecturers could lead to fresh industrial action if urgent steps are not taken to address the outstanding issues.
