Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has publicly endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as his preferred successor ahead of the 2026 governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
This disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. He said the decision was reached after what he described as extensive consultations with party structures and leadership.
The Governor said the decision reflects a collective preference within the party and a desire for continuity in governance.
He described Yahaya Seriki as “young, pro-people, astute and broad-minded,” noting that the aspirant has played a significant role as a political mobiliser with strong goodwill and investments across Kwara State.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC),” AbdulRazaq said.
The governor stressed that the endorsement does not disqualify or undermine other aspirants in the race, adding that all contenders remain free to participate in the primaries.
“This does not in any way preclude all other aspirants from contesting in the primaries. I urge members and leaders to affirm the choice of Seriki as our candidate for cohesion, unity, and continuous success of the party,” he stated.
He further described the APC governorship contest as one involving about 16 capable aspirants, noting that only one candidate can emerge at the end of the process.
According to him, the choice of Yahaya Seriki is based on conviction rather than sentiment, and should not be interpreted as a dismissal of other aspirants’ competence or contributions.
He also commended all aspirants in the race for what he called their discipline and commitment to building on the achievements of his administration over the past seven years.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed optimism that the party would emerge stronger and more united after the primaries.
The APC is expected to conduct its governorship primaries across Kwara State on Thursday as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
